Drug Enforcement
Roberto Tyrone Goodman is a dedicated member of the Royal Bahamas Police Force for over thirty (30) years. He enlisted into the Royal Bahamas Police Force on October 27th, 1989. He is presently the Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for the Drug Enforcement Unit, and during his tenure as a member of the organization he has displayed his leadership skills, and experiences at various divisions such as the Drug Enforcement Unit, Central and Southeastern Divisions.
Prior to becoming the Commander of the Drug Enforcement Unit Mr. Goodman was then a Superintendent and Officer-in-Charge of the Southeastern Division. Mr. Goodman along with his team, by using the tool of intelligence led policing was able to "Crack" a major housebreaking ring within the division in 2018 where household appliances such as television, stoves, washing machines, windows and tiles were recovered. In addition to solving the housebreaking matters, during the year in review in 2019 Mr. Goodman and his operation team with a focused effort targeted the criminal activities within the zone acting in accordance with Commissioner's Policing Plan, "Reduction of Crime". The team at Southeastern Division recovered numerous firearms, ammunitions and large quantities of dangerous drugs within the district, where he was instrumental in the apprehension of numerous prolific offenders. There were a number of Community Programs and Crime Fighting initiatives implemented during this time.
Mr. Goodman lives by the quotes "people don't do what you expect, they do what you inspect." and "treat people the way you expect to be treated." He believes that the welfare and safety of police officers is paramount, and because of the compassion he has demonstrated to officers at the Southeastern Division he was able to motivate and encourage officers to maximize their potential professionally not only in the organization, but also the wider community and their personal lives. Having spent the majority of his career within the Drug Enforcement Unit, and is now the Commanding Officer, Mr. Goodman and his team has the mandate of Drug Interdiction throughout the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.
He has obtained special training & skills in the following: Advanced Maritime Operations (Naval Seal) (1996 Nassau),Surveillance Equipment and Platform Factory Training (1997 Fort Lauderdale), Narcotics Investigators Course and Introduction to Computers (2001 Jamaica), Advanced Maritime Naval Seal Operation ( 2001 Bahamas), Advance Narcotic Investigator Course (2004 Jamaica), International Observer Attachment Program (2004 Canada), Combating Economics Fraud & Counterfeiting Seminar (2004 Bahamas), Participating Nations Network (PNN)/Sharepoint Workshop (2006 Miami), INTERPORL Capacity Building Program on Organized Crime for the Americas (2013 Dominican Republic), Anti-Drug Training Course for Senior Police Officers of the Caribbean Community and Common Market ( 2014 Rome, Italy), Leadership Program for Law Enforcement Oral & Written Communication (2019 Bahamas). In March 2017 Mr. Goodman was awarded the Meritorious, Long Service and Good Conduct Award.
On October 1, 2023, Mr. Goodman was promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and was officially installed as a valued member of the Senior Executive Leadership Team within the Royal Bahamas Police Force.
On January 9th 2025, he was promoted to the esteemed rank Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police where he serves currently.
He is married and is the father of five (5) children. He is a member of Believers Embassy International Church. His hobbies includes playing softball, basketball, listening to music, traveling and participating in our culture festivities such as Junkanoo.
