61st Session of the Commission on the Status of Women(CSW)

The Hon. Melanie Griffin, Minister of Social Services and Community Development headed a Bahamas delegation to attend the 61st Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) held March 13-24, 2017 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, New York.

Acting Assistant Superintendent Indirah Adderley and Mrs. Sauline Smith-Taylor were members of the delegation; Acting Assistant Superintendent Adderley has been affiliated with the Department of Gender and Family Affairs in the Ministry of Social Services & Community Development for many years.

The Commission on the Status of Women is the global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of the rights and empowerment of women and children . This year's theme is 'Women's Economic Empowerment In The Changing World of Work'. The session emphasized the challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls, outlined in the 58th session.
