Police discovered two unlicensed firearms and a quantity of suspected dangerous drugs

The strategies employed by the Royal Bahamas Police Force resulted in the discovery of a quantity of suspected dangerous drugs and two unlicensed firearms on Friday 9th, July 2021.

Preliminary reports are that shortly after 6:00 p.m., acting on information officers from the Anti-Gang and Firearms Unit proceeded to Laird Street. While there, the officers conducted a search of an area surrounding a stone structure. As a result, they discovered a tan pants, when examined contained a grassy substance suspected to be marijuana and two pistols, one of which had one unfired round of ammunition. No arrest was made during this incident. Investigations into this matter continues.

Police advisory to businesses concerning fraudulent cheques

The Financial Crime Investigations Branch of the Royal Bahamas Police Force wish to advise members of the business community of a recent spate of Fraudulent cheques in circulation. Fraudsters call a business establishment requesting price or quotes for merchandise while informing that they represent a credit union or an insurance company. The Fraudster also indicate that the merchandise would be paid for by cheque drawn from the mentioned credit union or insurance company. Within a day or two, the frauder/s comes to the business and presents a cheque matching the amount of the quote. The business is usually informed after 2-3 business days that the cheque is fraudulent.

Businesses that are being targeted range from building supply stores, furniture stores, and wholesale agencies. The value of the fraudulent cheques is usually in the $3k- $6k figure range.

The business community is advised to take extra precaution when accepting cheques and ensure that customer information is obtained when conducting transactions.
