Police discovers dangerous drugs one male arrested

The crime fighting strategies employed by the Royal Bahamas have resulted in the discovery of dangerous drugs and the arrest of a male on the island of New Providence this past weekend.

In the first incident, preliminary reports are that on Sunday 23rd, May 2021 shortly before 5:00 p.m. acting on information, officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit while at the Lynden Pindling International Airport, attention was drawn to a male who aroused their suspicion. A field search of the suspect was conducted, as a result the officers discovered a black taped package in a backpack which was in the possession of the suspect. An inspection of the package revealed a white substance suspected to be cocaine. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody. The weight of the drugs is 1kilo and has an estimated street value of $20000. Investigations into this matter continue.

In the second incident, preliminary reports are that on Monday 24 May 2021 acting on intelligence, shortly after 8:00 p.m. officers from the Western Division went to a premises situated on Curtis Road, Gambier Village. While there, the officers conducted a search and discovered a sealed five-gallon bucket. An inspection of the bucket revealed a quantity of suspected marijuana. As a result, an adult male was taken into custody. The weight of the drugs is 5lbs. and has an estimated street value of $5000. Investigations into this matter continue.

In the third incident, preliminary reports are that officers form the Drug Enforcement and K9 Unit, shortly after 10:00 p.m., went to a residence located Palmetto Avenue to execute a search warrant. On arrival the police search dog was deployed but was unsuccessful on the targeted site. However, the dog followed a scent which led it to a brown bag on an adjacent property. An inspection of the bag revealed a quantity of suspected cocaine. No arrested was conducted during this discovery. The weight of the drugs is weight of 1lb. 8.5 0unces. Investigations into this matter continue.

Police arrested two females suspected of Arson and Stealing

Preliminary reports are that on Thursday 20th May 2021, the police on the island of Acklins were alerted to a structural fire in the settlement of Spring Point, Acklins. On their arrival, they met a single-story structure engulfed in flames. The property was a commercial building which housed three businesses. The building was extensively damaged and two vehicles were destroyed.

During an inspection of the building, it was discovered that a large sum of cash was stolen from a safe. Subsequently, a team of officers including Detectives and Fire Investigators travel to Acklins on Saturday 21st, May 2021 to investigate. This has resulted in two female suspects being taken into custody and a large sum of cash recovered. The suspects are expected to appear before the Magistrate Courts later this week.

Police are investigating two separate shooting incidents

Police on the island of New Providence are investigating two shooting incident which occurred on Monday 24th, May 2021 and resulted in three males being detained in hospital.

In the first incident, preliminary reports indicate that shortly after 9:00 p.m., two males were standing outside their residence situated on Peach Street and Johnson Road. When they observed a small vehicle approached them. The rear passenger window was screwed down. They then heard the sound of gunshots and moments realized that they were both shot in their face. The victims were transported to the hospital in a private vehicle and are listed in serious condition. Investigations into this matter continue.

In the second incident, preliminary reports are that sometime around 11:00 p.m., a male was seated at the rear of his residence, when he heard what appeared to be the sound of gunshots Moments later he felt a burning sensation and discovered that he had been shot in his buttocks. He was assisted to the hospital in a private vehicle and is listed I serious condition. Investigations into this matter continue.
