POLICE HAVE LAUNCHED AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE LATEST HOMICIDE

Police on the island of New Providence are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an adult male which occurred on Saturday 1st, May 2021.

Preliminary reports are that shortly after 9:00 p.m., police received report of a shooting incident that occurred on Polhemus Street off Nassau Street. On the arrival of the first responding officers, they met three males suffering from injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.

Emergency Medical Services visited the scene and rendered medical assistance. One of the males succumbed to his injuries and two were transported to the hospital, one is listed as critical and the other in stable condition.

Investigation revealed that a group of men were gathered outside a residence, when a small gray vehicle approached them. An occupant discharged a firearm in their direction, hitting the victims before speeding away. Investigations into this matter continue.

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT IS INVESTIGATING A MULTIPLE STRUCTURE FIRE

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed multiple structures on the island of New Providence on Sunday 2nd, May 2021.

Preliminary reports are that shortly before 3:00 p.m., the Fire Department received reports of a structural fire on Jenny Street. Moments later, the first unit arrived on scene and met several structures engulfed in flames. The officers began to extinguish the fire. Several minutes later additional units arrived on scene and assisted with the extinguishing of the fire.

As a result of the fire, a 99-year-old female was taken to the hospital via ambulance to be treated for smoke inhalation. Initial assessments reveal that six structures were completely destroyed and four were partially damaged. The cause of the fire is not yet known. However, the Fire Department will continue investigation into this incident.
