POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING THREE SHOOTING INCIDENTS

Police on the island of New Providence have commenced investigations into three shooting incidents which occurred on Sunday 11th, April 2021.

In the first incident, preliminary reports are that shortly after 12:00 noon, police received information that a group of people were sitting on the porch of a residence situated on Charles Vincent Street. When a male armed with a firearm approached them, he discharged the weapon at a male who was seated in the group. The victim was shot in his left and right leg. He was transported to the hospital in a private vehicle and is listed in serious condition. Investigations into this matter continue.

In the second incident, preliminary reports are that shortly before 10:00 p.m., a male was at his residence on Guinep Street, Pinewood Gardens. When three men approached him, one of the males produced a firearm and shot him several times about the body before making good their escape. He was transported to the hospital via a private vehicle and is listed in stable condition. Investigations into this matter continue.

In the third incident, preliminary reports are that shortly after 11:00 p.m., a male was seated in his vehicle on Hercules Street, Mason Addition. When he heard what sounded like gunshot. He later realized that he had been shot in his back. He was transported to the hospital via a private vehicle and is listed in stable condition. Investigation into this matter continue.

POLICE ARRESTED A MALE SUSPECT FOR POSSESION OF AN UNLICENSED FIREARM

The continued support of members of the public have resulted in officers arresting a male suspect and removing a firearm from the street of New Providence on Sunday 11th, April 2021.

Preliminary reports are that shortly after 3:00 p.m., officers from the Operations Unit acting on intelligence went to Lincoln Way off Balfour Avenue. On their arrival at the targeted site, they met a male fitting the source description. A field search was conducted, during the search the officers discovered a black and chrome revolver with four unfired rounds of ammunition. The male was arrested and taken into custody. Investigations into this matter continue.

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT IS INVESTIGATING A STRUCTURAL FIRE

The Fire Department is investigating a structural fire which occurred on Porters Cay on Sunday 11th, April 2021.

Preliminary reports are that shortly before 12:00 mid night, the Fire Department was summoned to a structural fire at Porters Cay Dock. Upon the unit's arrival at the scene, they met several wooden single-story structures on the eastern side of the dock engulfed in flames. They were able to extinguish the fire, however several of the structures which housed restaurants and bars were destroyed. As a result of the fire two boats that were docked at the rear of the structures were also destroyed. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. Investigations into this matter continue.
