POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A SHOOTING INCIDENT
Police on the island of New Providence are investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Sunday 14th, March 2021 and resulted in a male being detained in hospital in stable condition.

Preliminary reports are that sometime around 12:00 noon, police were made aware of a shooting incident that occurred on the corner of Homestead Street and Homestead Avenue. Officers responded and on their arrival they were informed that two males were involved in an altercation. Both of the men produced firearms and exchanged fire at each other. One of the males was shot in the left leg, he was transported to the hospital and is listed in stable condition. The other suspect left the scene prior to the arrival of the police. Investigations into this matter continues.

POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING TWO BOATING ACCIDENTS
Police on the islands of New Providence and Harbor Island are investigating a boating accident which occurred on Sunday 14th, March 2021.

In the first incident, preliminary reports are that sometime after 6:00 p.m., police were alerted to a boating accident that occurred in the area of Anthol Island. The captain of a 19 feet Yamaha 190 FSH Jet boat informed that his vessel was cruising in a western direction toward the Montague foreshore.

He noticed when the occupant of a Jet Ski was travelling east towards his boat. He attempted to avoid the oncoming collision. However, both vessels collided head on into each other. The captain fished a male from the water and check for signs of life, but to no avail. The body and Jet Ski were brought to the Montague Ramp.

Emergency Medical Services were called in and following their examination the body was pronounced lifeless. Her Majesty's Coroner visited the scene at the dock and was appraised of the facts. Investigations are ongoing, on completion the matter will be forwarded to the Coroner, who will conduct a Coroner's Inquest.

In the second incident, preliminary reports are that sometime after 9:00 p.m., the captain of a 28 feet Bertram, which is used as a Ferry Boat stated that he was travelling enroute to Man Island, when he heard and felt a loud bang. He assumed that his vessel had hit a rock, but later realized that it collided with a 17 feet Boston Whaler. As a result, the passengers on the Boston Whaler were ejected into the water.

Officers from the Harbor Island Police Station led a search and rescue party to the scene of the accident. Investigations determined that (8) people were on board the Boston Whaler and three people on the Bertram. The captain and passengers on the Bertram were all accounted for. The rescue team found (7) seven people that were on board the Boston Whaler. They include: two females who were pronounced dead at the Harbor Island medical facility, (2) two females who were airlifted to New Providence, a male and (2) two females were treated and discharged. A male is presently unaccounted for. The search and rescue will continue for him. Following the police Investigations, the matter will be forwarded to the Coroner for a Coroner's Inquest.

POLICE ARRESTED TWO MALES AND A FEMALE FOR POSSESSION OF AN UNLICENSED FIREARM
The proactive initiatives employed by the Royal Bahamas Police Force have again resulted in the arrest of two males and a female for possession of an Unlicensed firearm on Saturday 13th, March 2021.

Preliminary reports indicate that shortly after 2:00 p.m., acting on information officers from the Operation Unit executed a search warrant on a residence situated on Nicholls Court, Yellow Elder Gardens. During the search, the officers found a black pistol containing (6) six unfired rounds of ammunition. As a result, two males and a female were arrested and taken into custody. Investigations into this matter continues.

THE ROYAL BAHAMAS POLICE FORCE TRAFFIC DIVISION CONDUCTED AN ISLAND WIDE OPERATION
During the period of Wednesday 10th, March to Friday 12th, March 2021, officers from the Traffic Division conducted daily coordinated island wide traffic management blitz at various check points. The aim was to assist in the smooth flow of traffic as motorist traverse during the morning commute and to deal with offenders of the Road Traffic Regulations. During the operation, some (282) motorists were issued Fixed Penalty Notices for various offences, (13) people were arrested for outstanding warrants and (2) wanted persons were arrested.

Motorist are reminded to continue to adhere to the Road Traffic Regulations, in particular: the wearing of seat belts, having a valid driver's license and insurance certificate on hand. It is also important to note that the use of electronic devices while driving a motor vehicle is now an offence.
