POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A POLICE INVOLED SHOOTING
Police on the Island of New Providence are investigating a police involved shooting that occurred on Tuesday 23rd, February 2021.

The incident resulted in a male being fatally wounded. Preliminary reports are that shortly before 10:00 p.m. officers from the Operations Unit were on routine patrols south along East Street, when they observed a vehicle that drove through a police check point at a high rate of speed. The officers beckon the driver to stop with the use of the police beacon lights and siren. The vehicle eventually came to a stop in the vicinity of Cordeaux Avenue and East Street. As the officers approached the vehicle, a male driver exited the vehicle armed with a weapon. The officers produced their service weapon and engaged the suspect, fatally wounding him. Her Majesty's Acting Coroner visited the scene and was appraised of the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation into this matter will be turn over to Her Majesty's Coroner for an inquest.

POLICE ARRESTED A MALE SUSPECT FOR POSSESSION OF AN UNLICENSED FIREARM
The proactive initiative implemented by the Royal Bahamas Police Forces have once again resulted in officers on the island of New Providence arresting a male for possession of an unlicensed firearm on Tuesday 23rd, February 2021.

Preliminary reports are that shortly after 10:00 p.m. officers from the Operations Unit acting on information, proceeded to Andros Avenue. On their arrival they located a male suspect fitting the description that was given to them. As the officers approached the suspect, he fled on foot. A chase ensued, during which an officer observed when the suspect removed a firearm from his waist and drop it. He then stopped and threw his hands into air. As a result the suspect was arrested and taken into custody. The officers collected a black pistol which contained six unfired rounds of ammunition. Investigations into this matter continue.
