POLICE OFFICER SHOT WHILE IN THE EXECUTION OF HIS DUTY
Police on the island of Andros are investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday 5th, January 2021 and resulted in a Police officer and suspect being shot.

Preliminary reports are that shortly after 9:00 a.m., officers from the Fresh Creek Police Station were conducting inquiries in the settlement of Staniard Creek. The officers approach a male suspect and informed him of a compliant that was made against him. As the officers attempted to affect the arrest, a struggle ensued between the suspect and one of the officers. During the struggle, the suspect was able to disarm the officer. He then discharged several rounds, one of which struck the officer injuring him in the left leg.

Another officer produced his service weapon and shot the suspect injuring him. He was subdued and the firearm was retrieved. Both the officer and the suspect were airlifted to New Providence. They are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Investigations into this matter continue.
