POLICE DISCOVERS TWO ILLEGAL FIREARMS
The efforts of the officers of the Royal Bahamas Police Force have resulted in the discovery and removal of two illegal firearms in separate incidents from the streets of New Providence on Friday 29th, January 2021.

In the first incident, preliminary reports are that shortly before 10:00 a.m., officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit, while armed with a search warrant went to a residence on Laird Street. On their arrival they met a male who was acting in a suspicious manner. The officers conducted a field search and discovered a 9mm pistol and (5) five unfired rounds of ammunition from the front right pocket of the suspect. The officers continued a search of the suspect's residence and found a quantity of suspected marijuana. He was arrested and taken into custody. Investigations into this matter continue.

In the second incident, preliminary reports are that shortly after 6:00 p.m., acting on information officers from the Operations Unit went to an abandon building on Windsor Lane, where a search was conducted. As a result, a black 9mm pistol with (3) three live rounds of ammunition was found. No arrest was made during this incident. Investigations into this matter continue.

POLICE DISCOVERS DANGEROUS DRUGS
Police on the island of Exuma discovered a quantity of dangerous drugs on Sunday 31st, January 2021.

Preliminary reports are that shortly before 1:00 p.m., officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit on the island of Exuma, armed with a search warrant, went to a residence situated in Bahama Sound. While searching the exterior of the property, officers found a quantity of suspected marijuana. No arrest was made during this incident. However, a male suspect is being sought as investigations into this matter continue.

POLICE INVESTIGATES A POLICE INVOLVED SHOOTING
Police on the island of New Providence are investigating a police involved shooting which occurred on Sunday 31st, January 2021 and resulted in the death of an adult male.

Preliminary facts are that shortly after 5:00 p.m., police received reports of a disturbance at the Bahamas Hot Rod Association situated along Corridor Seven, between Bethel Avenue and Yellow Elder Way. Units were dispatched and on their arrival, the officers met a large gathering. Officers then established a check point at the entrance of the venue.

The officers then made a check of the vehicles and patrons as they exited. The occupant of a small black vehicle, in an attempt to evade the officers at the checkpoint, accelerated in the direction of the officers and refused to stop when beckoned to do so. As the driver continued acceleration; the officers being in fear for their lives drew their service weapons and engaged the occupant of the vehicle. The driver continued west along Corridor Seven and later crashed into a northern wall.

Emergency Medical Services were summoned and transported a male victim to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. A search of the vehicle was conducted and as a result a weapon was recovered. Investigations into this matter continue.
