Police are investigating a Police involved shooting

Preliminary reports are that sometime after 8:00 p.m., on Sunday, 26 December 2021. Three off duty officers were at a business establishment located on Fire Trail Road when they had reason speak to a male patron who was acting in a disorderly manner. The young man left the establishment in irate. He entered his vehicle and sped off.

The male returned moments later and left again. He then returned a third time. As he exited his vehicle, one of the officers noticed him with a firearm. Being in fear for their lives, the officers produced their service weapons and discharged them in the direction of the male, fatally wounding him. The officers retrieved and secured a pistol which was in the possession of the suspect.

Her Majesty’s' Coroner attended the scene and was appraised of the facts. Investigations into this incident continue and on completion, the file will be forwarded to the Coroner’s Office where a Coroner’s Inquest will be conducted into this matter.

Police advisory to holders of Licensed Firearms

The Firearms Licensing Authority wish to remind the holders of licensed firearms that the 2022 licensing period commence on 1st of November 2021. The fee for shotguns is $150 and $300 for rifles. Licensed holders are also reminded that a late fee of $50 begin on 15th January 2022.
