Police have arrested two Jamaican males for possession of dangerous drugs

Preliminary reports are that sometime around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, 24 December 2021. While in the area of Great Inagua on routine air patrols, officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit and the United State Coast Guard observes a speed boat beached on the northern shoreline of Great Inagua. The officers’ suspicion became aroused when they noticed two males standing near the boat.

As a result, the patrolling aircraft landed in the vicinity of the speed boat, the officers disembarked and approached the suspects. When the officers arrived at the boat one of them noticed a number of packages placed a short distance away from the males in low bushes. A search of the area was conducted and on completion the officers found a total of 34 large packages, some of them were wrap in black plastic and the others in white bags.

A field sampling of the content of some of the packages revealed a grassy substance, suspected to be marijuana. The suspects, who are both Jamaican nationals ages 50 and a 34 years were arrested for being in possession of dangerous drugs and other related offences. They are assisting the police with the investigation into this incident. The suspected drugs, the weight of which is not yet known and the suspects are being transported to New Providence.

Police are investigating a recent homicide

Detectives on the island of New Providence are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an adult male which occurred on Friday, 24 December 2021.

Preliminary reports are that sometime around 8:30 p.m., Police were alerted to a male being shot on Quakoo Street. Officers were dispatched and on the arrival of the first responders, they found an adult male lying in the street with wounds to the head consistent with gunshots. Emergency Medical Services visited the scene and on completion of their examinations the male was pronounced lifeless.

Initial investigations revealed that the victim was standing in the area of a shot cut on Quakoo Street, when a male armed with a firearm approached and shot him in the head. The suspect fled the scene on foot. This matter remains under active investigation.

Police advisory to holders of Licensed Firearms

The Firearms Licensing Authority wish to remind the holders of licensed firearms that the 2022 licensing period commence on 1st of November 2021. The fee for shotguns is $150 and $300 for rifles. Licensed holders are also reminded that a late fee of $50 begin on 15th January 2022.
