Police arrested five males for Possession of firearm and ammunition

Preliminary reports are that shortly before 6:00 p.m., on Friday, 12th November 2021, officers from the Operations Unit executed a search warrant on a residence located Mandingo Alley, Fox Hill. During the search, officers found a pistol, two magazines and 26 unfired rounds of ammunition. As a result of this discovery, 5 adult males were arrested and taken into custody. Investigations into this matter continue.

Police have launched an investigation into Police involved shooting

Detectives on the island of New Providence have launched an investigation into a Police involved shooting that on Matthew Street, Nassau Village on Saturday, 13 November 2021.

Preliminary reports are that shortly 3:00 a.m., acting on information officers from the Operations Unit went to business establishment situated on Alexandria Boulevard, Nassau Village where a male suspect was said to be in possession of a firearm. On the arrival of the Unit, they saw a male suspect fitting the description.

On seeing the police the suspect went into his vehicle and attempted to drive off in an easterly direction along Alexander Boulevard. The officers, with their service weapons drawn, beckoned the driver to stop and exit the vehicle. However, she accelerated in an eastern direction toward the officers.

Being in fear for their lives, the officers discharged their weapons in the direction of the oncoming vehicle. The driver managed to evade them and sped off. He collided with a vehicle that was parked on the northern side of the street and continue traveling east along with Alexander.

The officers then pursued the suspect. As the suspect turned south onto Matthew Street, his vehicle crashed into another parked vehicle and came to a stop. The officers exited their cruiser in an attempt to affect an arrest. As they approached the vehicle, they noticed the suspect exiting his vehicle brandishing a firearm. As a result, the officers became aware of the threat to their lives. They discharged their weapons in the direction of the suspect, injuring him. The officers recovered a pistol from the suspect.

Emergency Medical Service visited the scene and following their assessment, they pronounce the male lifeless. Police will await the identification by a next of kin to confirm the victims' identity. Her Majesty's Coroner visited the scene and was appraised of the fact. On completion of the investigations into this matter. It will be forwarded to the Coroner Court for an inquest.

Police advisory to holders of Licensed Firearm

The Firearms Licensing Authority wishes to remind the holders of licensed firearms that the 2022 licensing period commences on the 1st of November 2021. The fee for shotguns is $150 and $300 for rifles. Licensed holders are also reminded that a late fee of $50 begin on 15th January 2022.
