Mr. Reginald Ferguson was born on the island of Acklins, Bahamas on May 13, 1946. He is the firstborn of Ernest and Ellamae Ferguson and grew up in the quaint settlement of Snug Corner. He received his formal education at the Snug Corner All Aged School. As a young child his life was primarily centred on home, school and church. His favorite childhood pastimes were fishing on the rocks with 'his boys' and playing softball.

During his early teen years, Mr. Ferguson left Acklins and relocated to New Providence in search of more favourable employment opportunities. At age nineteen, on October 13, 1965 he enlisted in the Royal Bahamas Police Force to pursue a career in policing. His motivation to join the Force was due to the influence of his uncle, Arthur Stevens who was employed Reginal Ferguson, Former Commissioner of Police as a Local Constable. The manner in which his uncle exercised his duty was very impressive to him and it was from this experience his ambition of becoming a police officer grew.

As time progressed, this young officer became diligent about distinguishing himself as a true leader among the rank and file of the Force. It became quite evident to his superiors that he was dedicated and serious about his career choice. Therefore his ascent into the ranks of the Force began in 1974 when he was promoted to Corporal and extended all the way to his present rank of Commissioner of Police in 2009. His more than 44 years of service have only perfected the good qualities he possessed as a young officer.

Over the years, he has worked in a cross section of areas of the Force inclusive of the Central Division, Criminal Investigation Division, Security & Intelligence Branch, New Providence District, Airport Division and the Drug Enforcement Unit.

His career highlights include developing the Drug Intelligence Programme of the Drug Enforcement Unit in 1988. He represented the Caribbean Region at the International Drug Enforcement Conference (IDEC XIV) in Mexico City, Mexico in 1996. Mr. Ferguson was the Aide-de-Camp to the Right Honourable Sir L.O. Pindling, former Prime Minister of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas. He is also noted as the first officer to utilize a tape recorder as evidence in a case to secure a conviction.

He commanded the Drug Enforcement Unit and several years later, he was named the Assistant Commissioner in charge of Crime. As Assistant Commissioner of Crime, he had responsibility for overseeing the entire "crime family" which include the Criminal Investigation Department, Drug Enforcement Unit, Interpol, National Central Intelligence Bureau, Strike Force, Forensic Laboratory, Joint Information & Coordination Centre, Firearms Licensing and the Criminal Records Office.

Mr. Ferguson received his professional training from many institutions around the world which includes the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.

In recognition of his devoted service he has attained many commendations and awards, including the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal and the Queen's Police Medal (QPM).

Although Mr. Ferguson's passion for his career has been clearly demonstrated he also has a love for the Christian ministry. He is an ordained Minister at St. John's Native Baptist Church and is a member of the Board of Trustees for the St. John's Native Baptist Society of Churches. Additionally, Mr. Ferguson serves in the capacity of a Sunday School Youth Teacher, Director of Men's Ministries and a member of the Boys' Brigade Parents' Association. He is married to the former Dulcita Martinborough, and they are the parents of four sons, a daughter-in-law, 2 granddaughters and 2 grandsons.
