NEW PROVIDENCE

FIREARMS CONFISCATED IN TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS

On Wednesday, 16th April, 2025, law enforcement officers confiscated two firearms during separate incidents, one of which resulted in the arrest of several people.

Incident 1

Preliminary reports indicate that shortly before 12:30 p.m., officers attached to Operation Black Scorpion acted on intelligence and conducted a search of a vacant lot on Strachan Street off Dunmore Avenue. During the search, they discovered a firearm. No arrests were made. The investigation continues.

Black Scorpion is a joint operation involving members of the Royal Bahamas Police Force and the Royal Bahamas Defense Force.

Incident 2

According to the initial report, sometime around 5:00 p.m., officers from the Anti-Gang & Firearm Investigation Task Force were on mobile patrol on Hay Street off East Street, when they attempted to stop a brown Japanese-model vehicle. The driver did not comply, leading to a short chase. During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle collided with several other vehicles and eventually a utility pole on Peter Street. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a loaded firearm and a quantity of suspected marijuana. The three occupants, two men, ages 29 and 25, and a 21-year-old woman, were taken into custody.

Investigations are ongoing into this matter.

The Anti-Gang & Firearms Task Force Unit is a multi-agency unit involving officers from the Royal Bahamas Police Force, the Royal Bahamas Defense Force, Bahamas Customs, Department of Immigration, and international counterparts.

STOLEN VEHICLE ALERT

Police seek the public’s assistance in locating the following vehicle that was reported stolen on Wednesday, 16th April, 2025:

  1. A white 2012 Suzuki Swift L/P #DB1543 – stolen from Arawak Cay, West Bay Street.

ADVISORY: CORONER’S COURT DELIVERS VERDICT

On Wednesday, 16th April, 2025, a police officer appeared before the Coroner’s Court, before Deputy Coroner, Acting Deputy Chief Magistrate Charlton Smith.

Following deliberations, a jury comprising of two men and three women returned a unanimous verdict of justifiable homicide, with a 5-0 decision.

This is in connection to a police-involved shooting that occurred on Saturday, 28th May, 2016, in Lewis Yard, Grand Bahama.
