NEW PROVIDENCE

POLICE CONFISCATE FIREARM

On Wednesday, 9th April 2025, shortly after 2:30 p.m., officers from the Operation Black Scorpion confiscated a firearm, ammunition, and a small amount of suspected Marijuana.

According to the preliminary report, officers acting on information received searched an open lot on Fleming Street. During the search, the illegal items mentioned were discovered and confiscated. No arrests were made. The investigation continues.

UPDATE: MISSING MAN AT SEA FOUND

Police wish to inform the public that on Wednesday, 9th April 2025, the male who went missing on Tuesday, 8th April 2025, while enroute to Grand Bahama from Grand Cay has been found in good health.

It is reported that his vessel experienced engine malfunction, but he made it safely to a nearby Cay and was assisted safely back home by a passing vessel.

UPDATE ON DEATH INVESTIGATION- PARADISE ISLAND

Police wish to inform the public that the male body who was found unresponsive on a beach on Paradise Island was officially identified as 23-year-old Mr. Dinari McAlmont of Bowie, Maryland, U.S.A.

Mr. McAlmont arrived in the Bahamas on Friday, April 4, 2025, along with other family members.

A post-mortem examination was performed, and the pathologist's findings revealed that the deceased died as a result of drowning. Further, police are still awaiting the forensic toxicology analysis, and investigations are ongoing. That said, foul play is not suspected at this time.

The matter will be forwarded to His Majesty's Coroner.

ARRAIGNMENT

On Wednesday, 9th April 2025, an 18-year-old adult male will be arraigned before the Magistrate’s Court at 12:00 p.m. for the offence of Murder.

These charges stem from a shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday, 11th March 2025, on Fleming Street, that resulted in the death of a 27-year-old male.

POLICE INVESTIGATE ATTEMPTED SUICIDE

Police are investigating an alleged suicide attempt of a 23-year-old female that took place at a residence on Bruce Avenue on Tuesday, 8th April 2025.

According to the initial report, police were alerted shortly after 6:45 p.m. by Emergency Medical Personnel of the incident. Responding officers visited the Rand Memorial Hospital and located the victim receiving treatment. It is further reported that the victim ingested an alleged poisonous substance along with alcoholic beverages. Her condition is not known at this time as the investigation continues.

ABACO

POLICE CONFISCATED AMMUNITION- MALE ARRESTED

Officers on the island on Abaco arrested a 34-year-old male from Spring City for the offense of possession of ammunition. On Tuesday, April 8th, 2025, shortly before 6:00 p.m., officers acting on information approached a wanted male suspect near an eatery in Dundas town. Upon seeing the police, the suspect threw a backpack to the ground and attempted to leave the area.

Officers retrieved the bag and conducted a search in his presence which revealed a quantity of ammunition. Subsequently, he was arrested reference to this matter and is assisting with the investigation.

SEARCH ONGOING FOR MISSING MAN AT SEA

Search and rescue efforts are underway for an adult male who went missing on Tuesday, 8th April 2025, in waters near Grand Cay.

Police were alerted of the incident shortly after 4:00 p.m. Preliminary reports indicate that the male went missing while attempting to leave Grand Cay enroute to Freeport, Grand Bahama, on his 17ft Aqua Sports Boat.

Members of the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Royal Bahamas Defense Force, and BASRA were alerted, and search efforts are ongoing.

  • Education & Essential Equipment: Pack essential items/equipment and know how to use them effectively.
  • Life Jackets Save Lives: Wear Them!
  • Avoid Alcohol & Illegal drugs: Do not consume alcohol or use dangerous drugs while operating a vessel.
  • File a Float Plan: Let family and friends know your itinerary, routes, boat description, and expected return time, and always travel with a responsible person in case of emergency, etc.
  • Be a Weather Watcher: Watch the weather, especially when it is closer to your departure time.
  • Comply with Your Boat’s Capacity: Do not overload the boat with persons, baggage/equipment.
  • Know the maritime rules of the road: These are international regulations applied to all vessels for safety at sea and preventing collision.
  • Communication Devices: Always carry VHF radios, cellphones, satellite communication, etc. because it will help you stay connected during an emergency.
