Training and Duration


The duration of the Recruit Training programme at the Academy is 24 weeks or 6 months. During this period, recruits undergo an intense training programme that includes classes on subjects relating to police duties, domestic violence and Creole. Along with these classes are Self Defensive Tactics, Firearm training, Defensive Driving, weight training, cardio exercises, legal studies, traffic investigation, social sciences, physical skills.

A typical day for a recruit at the Academy is as follows:

4:30 am Wake Up
5:00 am Physical Activities or General Fatigues
6:30 am to 7:30 pm Breakfast
8:00 am to 12:00 noon Classes
12:00 noon to 1:00 pm Lunch
3:00 pm to 5:00 pm Classes
5:30 pm to 6:30 pm Dinner
7:00 pm to 8:00 pm News
8:00 pm to 10:00 pm Assignments
11:00 pm Lights out(12 midnight on Fridays and Saturdays)

The training is very intensive and demanding. In order to meet training requirement, recruits will be given work assignments to be completed in the evenings, on the weekends and, in exceptional cases during holidays.

After-hour activities or assignments will be presented to recruits in a fair and equitable manner. Recruits may be asked to perform various duties or attend function that support the core values of the Royal Bahamas Police Force and the Academy. Compulsory assignments will include flag duties, ceremonial parades, diary duties and gate duties.
