NEW PROVIDENCE

POLICE INVESTIGATE FOUND REMAINS

Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department has commenced an investigation following the discovery of skeletal remains at a public cemetery on Fox Hill Road.

Authorities were notified of the discovery around 11:00 a.m., on Friday 26th April, 2024 by individuals who were excavating a plot of land designated for an upcoming burial.

The remains, which were partially concealed in a fabric material, were transported to the Rand Lab, where the pathologist will carry out a post-mortem examination.

Investigations continue.

POLICE INVESTIGATE ARMED ROBBERIES

Police are investigating two (2) alleged armed robberies that occurred overnight in the capital.

The first incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. off Carmichael Road on Friday 26th April, 2024.

Preliminary reports revealed that the victim was walking along a track road leading to Great Britain Street, Flamingo Gardens, when he was confronted by an unknown male. The assailant reportedly struck the victim in the head with an unknown object, robbed him of an undisclosed amount of cash and personal effects, and then fled the area on foot, successfully making his escape.

The victim sustained injuries to his head and upper body. He was transported to the hospital by emergency medical services for medical attention.

The second incident occurred shortly before 3:00 a.m. on Saturday 27th April, 2024 in the area of Gibbs Corner.

According to reports, the victim, while in the parking lot of a business establishment on Gibbs Corner and West Avenue, was approached by two males, both armed with firearms, who robbed her of her black 2011 Toyota Passo L/P #AS5597 before fleeing the immediate area.

SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER DISCHARGING A FIREARM AT POLICE

A 30-year-old male is being questioned by police after he, along with an accomplice, discharged a weapon at uniform officers on Friday 26th April, 2024.

Preliminary reports indicate that around 11:20 p.m., officers were conducting mobile patrols on Fire Trail Road when they observed a blue Nissan Note driving in a dangerous and reckless manner. They attempted to stop the vehicle but, the occupants refused, leading to a vehicle pursuit, during which time the occupants discharged a firearm at the officers, who returned fire; however, no one was injured.

The pursuit ended on Domingo Drive, off Carmichael Road, where the suspects’ vehicle collided with another motorist, causing damages.

The driver of the Note fled the scene on foot and managed to evade capture; however, the passenger, a 30-year-old male, was apprehended and taken into custody.

Investigations are ongoing into this incident.

POLICE MAKE SECOND DISCOVERY OF HUMAN REMAINS

An active investigation is underway into the second discovery of human remains found at a public cemetery situated on Abundant Life Road.

Based on preliminary reports authorities were alerted shortly after 1:00 p.m., on Saturday 27th April, 2024 that some unknown person/s disposed of a body within the Old Trail Public Cemetery.

Responding officers arrived at the scene and confirmed the discovery of a black body bag containing a decomposed human body and other human remains.

The remains were transported to the Rand Lab, where the pathologist will conduct a post-mortem examination.

Investigations continue.

POLICE INVESTIGATE STABBING INCIDENT

Police are actively investigating a stabbing incident that has left a 51- year-old male hospitalized.

The incident occurred in the vicinity of Wulff Road and Peardale Road shortly after 9:00 a.m., on Saturday 27th April, 2024.

According to preliminary reports, the victim allegedly struck an unidentified person’s vehicle with an unknown object, which led to the driver stabbing the victim multiple times prior to leaving the scene of the incident.

The victim sustained stab wounds to his upper body and was transported to the hospital via ambulance, where his condition remains stable.

NORTHERN BAHAMAS

GRAND BAHAMA: FIREARM CONFISCATED, SUSPECT ARRESTED

A 33-year-old male was arrested by police in Grand Bahama for possession of unlicensed firearm on Friday 26th April, 2024.

Preliminary reports indicate that around 8:45 p.m., officers acting on information arrived at a parking lot near the International Bazaar where they observed two (2) males, one of whom ran, eluding the officers; however, a search of the other male was made along with the immediate area, and a firearm containing ammunition was discovered leading to the arrest of the individual and seizure of the firearm.

Investigations continue.

ELEUTHERA

POLICE INVESTIGATE TRAFFIC FATALITY

Police on the island of Eleuthera are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the lives of two adult males.

The accident occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday 27th April, 2024.

According to initial reports, the four occupants of a motor vehicle were traveling north along King’s Highway in Upper Bouge-Eleuthera, just north of the Glass-Window Bridge, when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree. The vehicle exploded upon impact, and the two rear-seat passengers escaped; however, the driver and front-seat passenger were not successful.

The island’s volunteer fire services responded; they extinguished the blaze and discovered the charred remains of the driver and front seat passenger.

The rear-seat passengers were airlifted to New Providence for further medical assessment and care.

The Serious Accident Reconstruction Team (SART) from the Traffic Division in New Providence will travel to the island to conduct further investigations into this fatal crash.
